
Arkansas fans staged a rally outside Arkansas’ Broyles Center Monday evening to voice their support for head coach Bobby Petrino, who was placed on administrative leave last Thursday by the university. Approximately 200 fans showed up in Arkansas Razorbacks jerseys and t-shirts to gather together in hopes of saving Petrino’s job.
The sign that became the rally call for the evening was brought by Arkansas fan Sylvia Schlegel. It read, “Accept Apology and FORGIVE. Jesus Saved Bobby … Jeff …. You Can Too.”
That would be directed to Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long, who held a press conference late Thursday to announce he was placing Petrino on administrative leave while he investigates the Petrino situation a little deeper to determine what to do for the long term.
Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident with Jessica Dorrell, a student-athlete development coordinator hired by Petrino. The two are alleged to have been involved in what Petrino referred to as an “inappropriate relationship.” Petrino, 51, is married and Dorrell, 25, is engaged.
Team Petrino plan rally to support Arkansas coach
It seems there is a Facebook page for everything these days, so the fact that over 8,000 Arkansas fans and counting have joined a group nicknamed Team Petrino should not be all too surprising.
The Facebook group, named TEAM SAVE COACH PETRINO, asks fans to email Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long to “express support for Coach Petrino to remain the head coach of our football team.”

On Thursday night Long announced that Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino was being placed on paid administrative leave, so that Long may investigate the details about Petrino’s recent motorcycle accident and relationship with Jessica Dorrell, who was recently hired as the schools’ new student-athlete development coordinator for the football program by Petrino. Arkansas assistant coach Taver Johnson has been named interim head coach while Petrino is on leave.
